From Montreal, where she was born in 1948, to her arrival in the Languedoc-Roussillon in 1994, it has been a long voyage for Francine Savoie. On each step of the way, she acquired different skills and added new experiences to her repertoire.

Her talent and her passion for art were revealed at an early age. Fascinated by drawing, she enrolled in various classes in Montreal to foster this talent. She arrived in Sweden in 1978, and this is where she became acquainted with painting. Enrolling in a school for arts, Francine studied various forms of art with different Scandinavian masters. But it is the old techniques of etching and engraving that captivated her the most, and she worked extensively in this area where she produced a good number of strong figurative images. She was also fascinated with drawing and painting with live models, and from then on, the human figure became predominant in her paintings and etchings. After graduation from this school, she spent an additional two years working with the new students in the graphic arts department.

In 1988 she left Sweden and moved to Southern Spain. Andalusia became an unequaled source of inspiration. She used watercolors and oils with great sensitivity and originality to depict the beauty of the Mediterranean landscape. She became proficient in painting people, and representations of the human figure dominate her work. Feelings and moods filter through everyday scenes and the great simplicity of her compositions is a means to express these emotions. Although most imaginative, Francine's art remains truly figurative. The work of Francine Savoie is the result of her Scandinavian experience but it has also followed the same path as its author. It is Today and clearly Mediterranean.

Having lived in Europe for over twenty years, Francine has chosen France and the Languedoc-Roussillon region as her home. The voyage has been long and fruitful since her country of snow but the sea breeze and the Midi sunshine have already seduced her, and the Catalan imprint will soon become apparent in her paintings.
